The strong woman that has dominated the runway the past few seasons was swept aside in a flurry of tulle, ribbon, and bows at the spring 2010 runway shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. It appears designers are abandoning a woman whose fortitude matches her survival instincts in favor of something more flou and flirtatious.Short, transparent chiffon dresses will become “must haves” compared to more structured outfits.
Here are the fabrics that you will have to wear this Spring:
TWEED
ROMANTIC LACE
Game of lace and transparency. The corset is coming back! The lingerie is becoming an outfit.
Don’t forget to add prints in your outfits:
PRINTS
DO: little abstract flower patterns, polka dots, psychedelic prints in pastel colors, very discreet and romantic.
DON’T: the total look with prints everywhere or not matching together, too many prints kill the print.
RUFFLES
DO: Sensual, hippie chic or sophisticated, the ruffles are everywhere for Spring!
DON’T: too much, too big, I don’t like when a detail is too obvious in an outfit.
DRAPED AND CREASED
Wispy draping.
EMBROIDERY : Glitters, embroideries, sequences…
BOWS
Oversized and attention grabbing, bows in 2010 come in many styles and forms. They can be precious or pretty, without a doubt – but there’s also room for attitude and quirkiness too.
THE MUST HAVE:
The shorts, I plan to have one in the collection for Spring/Summer after many requests here we go !
DO:
DON’T: I am not crazy with the bermuda style, especially in tweed.
THE TRENCH COAT
DO: Try to find a nice twist mixed with a classic style. For the color I would keep nude, camel or Khaki and I would avoid the pastel new versions very difficult to match with your outfits. I think you would lose the chicness of a nicely tailored trench.
DON’T: Forget iridescent Trench or summer Trench with no sleeve converted into a dress
THE WHITE SHIRT
DO:
DON’T: I am not a fan of the plastron look.
MUST HAVE COLORS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2010:
***WHITE WILL BECOME A COLOR
White casual dress in cotton for the day.
White silk dresses for the evening.
***KHAKI EVERYWHERE (without mentioning the Balmain collection only in khaki this season)
DO: Khaki and white is a strong trend, very chic and elegant.
Evening dresses in khaki, this is the perfect color for any type of skin tone.
DON’T: Some khaki colors are too difficult to wear and some prints can make you look older.
*** PINK SEND/CHAMPAGNE COLOR
**GREY
Grey in silk chiffon is very strong, mixed with glitters it’s even nicer
MUST HAVE ACCESSORIES
Before putting any jewelry on, don’t forget a nice manicure that matches your color’s outfit. As you can see the brands are following the color trend for make up as well !
Transparent jewelry : plexi is the perfect material to match with all your dresses this summer.
