Lipstick for cat ladies

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Did you ever see a lipstick shaped like a kitten? I am impressed how they carved out all the details, whiskers and all. It’s one of the highlights of the quirky Paul & Joe makeup line heading to Urban Outfitters this Summer. The largest store in the USA with a vintage spirit and influences (mix of accessories, beauty, clothes and home deco).

More than the shape, the colors are very attractive and the texture so light and you will not have your hair stick to your mouth as with the juicy tubes!

The only problem with this I don’t think I can bring myself to actually use this shade. But I’m sure  any cat lover woud rescue it before I can even consider it.

Bye-Bye Bryant Park, Bye-Bye le Louvre

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Meet the new facade of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week for the September shows. Yes, that’s a red carpet you see, but this is the entrance that everybody who isn’t an A-list celebrity will be using come September, when the New York shows move to Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.

CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg referred to Lincoln Center as “a whole new venue,” with plans to make New York’s fashion week the most exciting one on the fashion calendar.

It seems that Paris follows the idea of changing location as well!

Didier Grumbach, president of the Chambre Syndicale, confirmed that the Fashion shows will not longer take place at the Carrousel du Louvre. After 16 years, the governing body of French Fashion will not continue its contract with the venue. The underground network of catwalks was conceived and constructed specifically as a communal venue for the presentation of fashion shows. It opened for the spring 1994 couture season, with Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel haute couture the first collection shown. The Carrousel was intended as an indoor improvement to the tents that for years had been installed seasonally in the grounds surrounding the Louvre. Though a major hit in the early days, the past decade has seen a flight of fashion majors from the venue. The Chambre Syndicale is said to be looking at other venue possibilities in the center of Paris.

Private co-branding by Karl Lagerfeld for Eres

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Karl is definitely a killer in ideas, design and novelties!

He just launched a fun yet simple interactive web campaign, photographed by the Kaiser himself, featuring the beautiful model Emily Didonato in a comic strip-style “fashion tale” series that paired Eres lingerie and swimwear with garments from its sister label Chanel.

You need to check it and play with it: http://www.eresparis.com/co-branding/popup.html

In this comic strip scenario, a chic, glamorous and mischievous pin-up poses and comes alive. She emerges simply dressed in an Eres swimsuit or lingerie ensemble and web users can virtually undress Didonato with a few clicks of the mouse to reveal her underpinnings, so smart!! Sorry, boys that’s as far as it goes.
The campaign launches on Eres’ website in mid-May, and will be displayed in French boutiques early next month.

Meanwhile, Karl is focusing on his upcoming collection with Hogan.

Ellen Von Unwerth at the Bon Marche

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Cinema is one of Ellen von Unwerth’s major sources of inspiration. The emotion, mystery, glamour, strength and sense of fun that surrounds actors and actresses provide an endless reservoir of content for Ellen’s shoots. Just as a film director would, Ellen ‘directs’ her photo shoots. When she has a camera in her hands, the world of movies meets the photography world.

Ellen has invented her own style that is recognizable in an instant… opening a door to the secrets that lie behind each séance. Ellen von Unwerth loves all of her actors and actresses and this exhibition reflects only a part of her work. Over a hundred clichés can be viewed, some of which have never been shown before. Visitors can also view 4 exclusive videos directed by Ellen von Unwerth with the collaboration of the H&K Agency.

Staging: The photos are lit up and appear to be floating in the air. Visitors will enter a large, dark room and discover the photos that are suspended underneath the Glass Atrium, bordered by a variety of luminous frames such as make-up mirrors. Ellen von Unwerth’s videos will be projected in the smaller, independent rooms. Cut, that’s a take!

The following actors and actresses have been photographed by Ellen von Unwerth:
Asia Argento, Patricia Arquette, Javier Bardem, Drew Barrymore, Emmanuelle Beart, Monica Bellucci, Juliette Binoche, Elodie Bouchez, Adrien Brody, Vincent Cassel, Laetitia Casta, Georges Clooney, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Béatrice Dalle, Raquel Dawson, Emma de Caunes, Paz de la Huerta, Catherine Deneuve, Zooey Deschanel, Matt Dillon, Lou Doillon, Mélanie Doutey, Romain Duris, Sar Forestier, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Gael Garcia Bernal, Vahina Giocante, Eva Green, Daryl Hannah, Salma Hayek, Amber Heard, Eva Herzigova, Elisabeth Hurley, Mylene Jampanoi, Milla Jobovich, Ashley Judd, Diane Kruger, Olga Kurylengo, Ashton Kutcher, Mélanie Laurent, Virginie Ledoyen, Lindsay Lohan, Sophia Loren, Madonna, Sophie Marceau, Mattew McConaughey, Rose McGowan, Ewan McGregor, Eva Mendes, Roxane Mesquida, Gretchen Mol, Demi Moore, Anna Mouglalis, Vanessa Paradis, Bijou Phillips, Brad Pitt, Nathalie Portman, Parker Posey, Mickey Rourke, Winona Ryder, Ludivine Sagner, Barbara Schulz, Elisa Sednaoui, Emmanuelle Seigner, Lea Seydoux, Kevin Spacey, Kristen Stewart, Audrey Tautou, Charlize Theron, Liv Tyler, Emma Watson, Raquel Welch, Reese Witherspoon.

Coca-Cola Light gets dressed by Karl Lagerfeld

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Coca Cola Light continues to honor fashion icons with their latest limited edition bottle designed by and featuring CHANEL’s pony-tailed guru of couture, Karl Lagerfeld.

The designer’s famous silhouette graces the aluminum bottle which comes in unique limited edition box, accompanied with a bottle-opener discreetly hidden in a drawer. Available now at Colette (French concept store in Paris).

This is not the first fashion designer to create a special version of the famous Coca-Cola Contour bottle for their light soda. Last year, in Italy, Coca-Cola Light had a Tribute to Fashion to celebrate 100 years of the recognizable contour bottle. Well known Italian designers Alberta Ferretti, Blumarine, Etro, Fendi, Marni, Missoni, Moschino, and Versace each designed the following beautiful limited edition bottles. Sadly, they were only available in Milan, but you can at least see them all here.

In 2009, Nathalie Rykiel, daughter of fashion designer Sonia Rykiel, created this designer bottle for Coca Cola Light, it was one of my favorite bottles!

My candy lips…ultra glossy

Friday, April 16th, 2010

When you achieve next-level success with something at the get-go, it’s hard to outdo yourself. A good example of this quandary is Lancôme’s Juicy Tubes. The cult lip shine was launched in 2000, setting off the gloss revolution and many imitations. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the bright-colored sheer favorites, Lancôme has jumped on board the trend of the new decade and gone green. The company has just launched Juicy Tubes 100% Natural Origin, a limited-edition collection of four glosses that utilize Hungarian honey as their main ingredient. The formulas are preservative-free and include other natural flavors and colors like vanilla, apricot, and annatto, a naturally derived red pigment from South America.

A delicious, gourmet delight for your lips! This ultra-brilliant, flavoured gloss slicks on easily, thanks to its handy tube-tip applicator. Totally transparent shine, plus a hint of shimmering colour makes lips glisten for a glamorous lacquered effect.

Spring/Summer 2010 Trends by Juliette Longuet

Monday, April 5th, 2010

The strong woman that has dominated the runway the past few seasons was swept aside in a flurry of tulle, ribbon, and bows at the spring 2010 runway shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. It appears designers are abandoning a woman whose fortitude matches her survival instincts in favor of something more flou and flirtatious.Short, transparent chiffon dresses will become “must haves” compared to more structured outfits.

Here are the fabrics that you will have to wear this Spring:

TWEED

ROMANTIC LACE

Game of lace and transparency. The corset is coming back! The lingerie is becoming an outfit.

Don’t forget to add prints in your outfits:

PRINTS

DO: little abstract flower patterns, polka dots, psychedelic prints in pastel colors, very discreet and romantic.

DON’T: the total look with prints everywhere or not matching together, too many prints kill the print.

RUFFLES

DO: Sensual, hippie chic or sophisticated, the ruffles are everywhere for Spring!

DON’T: too much, too big, I don’t like when a detail is too obvious in an outfit.

DRAPED AND CREASED

Wispy draping.

EMBROIDERY : Glitters, embroideries, sequences…

BOWS

Oversized and attention grabbing, bows in 2010 come in many styles and forms. They can be precious or pretty, without a doubt - but there’s also room for attitude and quirkiness too.

THE MUST HAVE:

The shorts, I plan to have one in the collection for Spring/Summer after many requests here we go !

DO:

DON’T: I am not crazy with the bermuda style, especially in tweed.

THE TRENCH COAT

DO: Try to find a nice twist mixed with a classic style. For the color I would keep nude, camel or Khaki  and I would avoid the pastel new versions very difficult to match with your outfits. I think you would lose the chicness of a nicely tailored trench.

DON’T: Forget iridescent Trench or summer Trench with no sleeve converted into a dress

THE WHITE SHIRT

DO:

DON’T: I am not a fan of the plastron look.

MUST HAVE COLORS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2010:

***WHITE WILL BECOME A COLOR

White casual dress in cotton for the day.

White silk dresses for the evening.

***KHAKI EVERYWHERE (without mentioning the Balmain collection only in khaki this season)

DO: Khaki and white is a strong trend, very chic and elegant.

Evening dresses in khaki, this is the perfect color for any type of skin tone.

DON’T: Some khaki colors are too difficult to wear and some prints can make you look older.

*** PINK SEND/CHAMPAGNE COLOR

**GREY

Grey in silk chiffon is very strong, mixed with glitters it’s even nicer

MUST HAVE ACCESSORIES

Before putting any jewelry on,  don’t forget a nice manicure that matches your color’s outfit. As you can see the brands are following the color trend for make up as well !

Transparent jewelry : plexi is the perfect material to match with all your dresses this summer.

Lady Gaga or Jimmy Choo shoes?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

What do we have here? A super-shoe style statement? A glow in the dark light? or both, actually.

Forget kids trainers with those flashing air bubbles back in the 90’s, light-up shoes have climbed a long way up fashion’s ladder. Jimmy Choo’s latest design is a real masterpiece. A strappy, black shoe with a five-inch heel that lights up when you dance with florescent colors. The secret to their luminosity comes from a lightbulb in the plexi-platform that activates every time the wearer takes a step. There’s a little switch under the insole.

Who could have imagined that Jimmy Choo would design such a rainbow bright killer piece !

The price is closer to a pre-recession price tag of $2495. But that hasn’t stopped the clients from electing the shoe as the best one of Spring 2010. The shoe  is so popular that the Jimmy Choo stores in Manhattan are completely out of stock and there’s a wait list to buy the strappy neon heels online.

Ladies that plunk down their Black AmEx card for the shoes should be warned that the light lasts for only about 100 hours. So be careful once it’s out, it can’t be replaced.

Despite their resemblance to the ’90s era “LA Lights” sneakers, Jimmy Choo founder and president Tamara Mellon insisted the inspiration for the shoes came from the artwork of Sue Webster and Tim Noble. “We just thought it would be super cool and fun to have a flashing dance shoe.”

Tamara, I agree with you your new design and concept is “super cool” ! Here is the new shoe generation.
